The Sharing Foundation’s Special Children (December, 2003)

After

Ith Leang Srun arrived in Boston this August; again Dr Daniel Ryan worked to sort out his problems. Srun had had a gastrostomy feeding tube he received in Bangkok the year before when he had recurrent pneumonias due to aspiration. Dr Ryan found that Srun had an anomaly of the upper esophagus reported only 8 times previously in the medical literature. Srun has now undergone a dilation procedure which, it is hoped, will be permanent, but there is great uncertainty that it will keep up with him as he grows. He is thrilled to be able to eat by mouth, and currently requires no more tube feedings, but he will need to be followed for a long time. His Foster family in Connecticut, with two sisters and a Cambodian brother, desperately hope that Srun can become their forever child, but again, due to adoption closure, this is not possible at this time.
